Dear Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers
Sybil continues to remain in remission after her 100th day following her Stem Cell Transplant this past April. Her remarkable inner strength and faith in God has brought her through tremendous trials.
Sybil and David's girls Leah and Hannah and sons Aaron and Adam where able to spend a lot of time with their momma over the summer months.
The best news is that Sybil's Dr's. have OK'ed her release to go back home near the end of the month.
Please continue to keep Sybil and her family in your prayers as they prepare to enter this new phase of their lives as Sybil will be reunited with family and friends.
Our deepest thanks and gratitude go out to all of you that have made donations and prayed unceasingly for Sybil and her family.
Hope you all enjoyed the pictures from the golf tournament. It was such a blast !!
Lori Gallion, Maria Stinson, June(David's sister) and Stacy(Dave's secretary and right and left hand) did an out standing job with the fund raiser, it couldn't have gone better.
Please continue to keep the Stinson family in your prayers.
Sincerely,
Lizzy and Ody

A Note From Mia (Mia's Photos)
I would like to personally thank everyone who helped sponsor, volunteer and play in the tournament that was recently held for my mom. Thank you to Lori for all the hard work that she did and for being a great friend. I know moma wishes she could have been there but due to some issues, she was not able to make it. And we all know that a party is not really a party unless moma is there!!! But never the less, we had great time! Like my dad said, sometimes words can not even describe the gratitude I feel for all the love and support during this time...so I'll say it as well as I can...THANK YOU!
I just got off the phone with mom and she said that her doc has said that she could return home anywhere from 2 1/2 weeks - 1 month. There still are some things he wants to monitor (make sure she has no infections, ween her off her steroids, etc) before he will let her come home. Adam, Hannah & Leah are still out there with moma and I know that having them their has made her happier and the time fly by. For those that are interested in her bone marrow results...the doc said that she is still in remission (yeah!!!)Thank you again for all the support, prayers and thoughts...

Email from Sybil to Lizzy
hi my lizzy bizzy,
i thought that i would send an update for the site...thank you for the most recent one but there were a couple of details left out.
I just finished a round of chemo as part of my clinical research. Their hope is that it will help extend my remission time. It left me feeling not so great but as all things...it shall pass. I am on the steroids and it will take a couple of months to wean me off of them. I have to check my blood sugar levels 4 times a day and give myself insulin shots several times a day. The steroids that I am on are very strong and they really effect my sugar levels. The steroids also affect me physically. I have loss most of my muscle mass in my legs and I am very weak in my arms. I have felt very fatigued lately but it is a good excuse for me to take it easy. I have to walk everyday by order of my medical team to help build me up physically so me and my mom walk around the courtyard of our apartment when the sun goes down. It is very hot and wearing my mask is miserable in this heat so the evening time it is cooler and more tolerable.
David will be here on Tuesday for an overnight visit...I am so excited to see him. It has been since May that I have seen him.
I love and miss you sweetie...thanks again for all you guys do to get the word out for me to all those following the website.
Love,
Sybie

Dear Family, Friends, and Kind Stangers,
Sybil seems to be doing pretty good these days. Her bone marrow biopsy came back clear, meaning, she is STILL in remission. Sybil goes back and forth to MD Anderson on a daily basis to receive her meds and do infusions when necessary, have blood drawn, etc... As usual, Sybil's spirits remain high with a smile on her face for friends and strangers alike.
The month of May was a difficult month for Sybil but she has turned the corner this month and is doing so much better. She does how ever remain quite tired most of the time which is to be expected.
Sybil's long time friend and neighbor Stacy was able to make a quick trip to Houston last week and spend a few days with Sybil. The two had a wonderful time. Stacy has been a God send for Sybil and her family in so many ways. Sybil and David's little girls refer to Stacy as their "second mom":) Stacy has been their for the little girls from day one and continues to dote on them with motherly care and affection tending to their needs as only a mother can do. A true friend in deed.
Sybil and David's son Adam graduated from High School this past month. Another huge accomplishment for the Stinson family. Four down and three to go! Keep up the good work Stinson's.
Thank you friends for your continued support of checking in on Sybil at this web site.
Please continue sending your prayers, well wishes, cards, donations, and gifts. Your support has meant the world to Sybil and her family.
Sincerely,
Lizzy and Ody
Memorial Day Blood Drive for Sybil
[May 26, 2008] 9:47 AM]
Hey Aunt Lizzy,
Adam here. Just emailing you to let you know that I have set up a blood drive for this Memorial Day. Besides donating blood, donors can give red blood cells, too. Also, the donors, if they so choose, can be tested for eligibility for becoming bone marrow donors.
Everything will be sent to Houston for Mom... whatever she can't use will go into the MDA blood bank.
Some info on the drive:
Date: Monday, May 26, 2008
Time: 12 noon-6pm
Place: The gym in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dothan, AL (between Diary Queen and Regions Bank on the north side of Ross Clark Circle)
If anybody has any question or needs directions, they can call me at (334)797-2509.
Map link
Although walk-ins are more than welcome, if someone knows they are coming, please call me and give me a time so that I can put it down on the sign-up sheet.
Thanks for everything!
Hope to see you there!

Hello Family, Friends, and Kind Stranger's,
Sybil has seemed to turn the corner over the past two days and has begun to feel much better physically and mentally. She does have Graft vs. Host disease which is very common after chemo and the Stem Cell Transplant. The Dr.'s have located the virus to be in her intestines hence the diarrhea. She is back on "some" solid food. Her diet consists of steamed white rice, beef broth, pretzels, peach nectars and mustard.
Sounds like the next "Hollywood Diet" for all those already bone bare actresses!
She has enjoyed putting the dietician to the test here recently by asking for some extra mustard.
(Imgine that! extra mustard, the nerve !!! ).
In asking for some "extra mustard", Sybil's request was met with the dietician's response of ......"I'll have to run the numbers on that Mrs. Stinson" !!! Hmmm...the numbers?
With some finagling on the part of the dietician, Sybil was able to get some extra mustard by giving up some peach nectar!
She and I began to "run our own numbers" and deducted that if she gives up 1/3 cup of yummy steamed plain white rice and 2 TBSP. of Beef Broth, she's going to go out on a limb and ask for some Grey Poupon Mustard:) !!!
If that doesn't work she's going to bid off the pretzels one by one to create her own food storage of mustard packs:)
Sybil has befriended some really great people on her floor that have, in her words, "helped the days to pass".
Her neighbors (next room over) are Clint and Tammy. Clint has Non Hodgekins Disease. Sybil seems to think they are in their thirties? Clint's wife Tammy is there every day to see about her husband and always makes time to go and visit with Sybil.
A few doors down are Elizabeth (19) and her mom Norma.
Elizabeth, better known as Libby, has A.L.L. Norma is planning a dinner for her Libby, and Sybil, as soon as they are released to go back to their homes.
In the other direction are Bob and Joann. They are an older couple. Joann also has some form of Leukemia and proudly wears her pink hat when she walks with Bob that says " Having a NO Hair Day" Good for you Joann:)
Sybil is looking at possibly being able to go back to the apartment with in the next day or two.
The biopsy to test the results of the Stem Cell Transplant is 30 days (give or take) from the 29th of April. I think I've mentioned that before? Any ways, it's something to look forward to.
As of today how ever, Sybil IS feeling better. That's good news.
Take care All.
Sincerely,
Lizzy & Ody
[May 14, 2008] 9:47 AM]
Dear Family, Friends, and Kind Stranger's,
I'm so sorry this post is so late. The LCD Inverter went out on Ody's lap top and we had to wait on a Sony Rep. to get to the house and fix it. That being said, I will do my best to inform you all on a more regular basis.
Since the last posting on Sybil she has had a very difficult time. After the chemo and Stem Cell Transplant as of April 29th, she has had constant diarrhea, (24/7) and bleeding from her nose. The nurses are keeping her nose packed and have taken her off of solid food as of a week ago. She is very tired and suffering from numerous body aches and pains. This is all par for the course unfortunately. Hopefully she will turn the corner soon and I will have a better report for all of you.
Sincerely,
Lizzy and Ody

Dear Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers,
As of today, May 8th, 2008, Sybil is doing well. The SCT was done on April 29th as previously stated. Sybil is tired and resting quite a bit here in the past week or so.
Her appetite has lessened considerably, as expected after the chemo and SCT. One thing she does like is GRITS ! That's my girl!! Aint nothin like a big ole bowl a grits to start your day out:) !!!
Keep sending good thoughts her way.
It will soon be almost a year that Sybil has been under going treatment for her Acute Mylogenous Leukimia.
What a trooper:).
Thanks to all of you that have continued to show love and support over these long months for the Stinson and Harley families.
Sincerely,
Lizzy & Ody

Hello Everyone,
Sybil has now completed her chemo therapy as of this past Sunday, April 27th, in preparation for her Stem Cell Transplant. Sybil will have the Stem Cell Transplant done today, April 29,2008 at approximately 11:00 am. A great day for a SCT according to Sybil's Tia Donna as it is her birthday.
Happy Birthday Tia Donna!
Today I celebrate Sybil's strength in her on going fight to beat this disease.
I invite you too to celebrate life today in all it's trials and tribulations.
I thank God for his mercy, grace, and compassion he has for us, his children, and continue to pray today lifting my petitions to Him as my Lord and Savior for the life of my friend/sister Sybil.
May God grant us all the desires of our hearts today as we pray.
Sincerely,
Lizzy

Hello Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers,
As of today April 24, 2008 Sybil is under going a clinical trial Chemo treatment for the next four days. April 29, 2008 is the date of her Stem Cell Transplant.
Sybil remains positive, as usual, living one day at a time as she continues to put her faith in God Almighty as her source of strength.
You have ALL been such a great source of strength for Sybil. Your phone calls, cards, gifts, visits, donations, and well wishes have served to build her physically, spiritually, and mentally.
Please continue to pray for our Sybil as the next several weeks will be difficult for her. The Chemo as well as the Stem Cell Transplant are uncomfortable to say the least.
David is on his way from Alabama to Houston, Texas today and will spend the next week and a half with his sweet heart Sybil :)
Maruja arrived safely back in Houston last week after a brief visit back home to Panama.
A special heart felt thanks to Shari and her kids for the week spent with Sybil in Texas while Maruja was in Panama. Sybil had a great time with Shari and her kids.
A special thanks to David Harley as well for his contribution as his sister's donor. Wow!!! That's huge.
Let us all remember to continue to pray for Sybil as she prays for us.
I will update again in another week or so.
Thank you all for being so patient in waiting for updates,.
Sincerely,
Lizzy & Ody
[April 4, 2008] 10:40 PM
Good Evening Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers,
As promised, here is the update.
Sybil's Dr.'s appointments went very well today. According to Dr. Alusi, Sybil is in good enough health to receive one more brief chemo treatment before her scheduled Stem Cell Transplant that will take place as early as next Friday.
Thanks to the continued support of so many caring people and their generous gifts, David and Sybil will be flying Sybil's brother David Harley and his wife Heather and their daughter Sierra Harley into Houston Texas tomorrow April 5th.
David Harley will begin the procedures necessary as the donor for the Stem Cell Transplant Sunday April 6th which will take any where from five to seven days. Let us all keep David Harley in our prayers for his continued health as he aids in saving the life of his sister Sybil.
Fred Harley remains in Houston's Methodist Hospital after being diagnosed with an 80% blockage to one of the arteries to his heart. A stint was successfully placed in the artery today to open the passage. I don't have any more information about this, family can contact Elsie Harley for more information.
Will update as more information is available on Sybil Harley Stinson, Fred Harley, and David Harley.
Continue to pray my friends as the miracles we are seeing are amazing.
God is Good all the time.
Lizzy

Greetings Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers,
Here's a quick update on Sybil. I will post a more detailed email this evening after Ody and I get in from work.
So far so good with Sybil. The fungal pneumonia is all but under control to the point were the Dr.'s are planning the next Stem Cell Transplant. The insurance has been approved for the procedure and we are now waiting for a date to start.
Sybil's brother David Harley has once again graciously agreed, with out batting an eye, to be her donor.
Were looking at the procedure hopefully taking place with in the next three weeks.
Maruja is in Panama with her family for a WELL DESERVED vacation and will return to Houston soon. Maruja was missed the minute she walked out the door. The extent of care she has provided for her daughter is immeasurable. Love truly is the sum of the equation.
Sybil's husband David is in Houston with Sybil at the present and will remain for the next week and a half.
Fred Harley is presently at the Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas as of last evening. He woke up in pain and thought it best to have it seen about. The Dr.'s suspect a Gall Bladder problem? no word yet people, but I will certainly update you as soon as we get some information. No worries though, he is in good hands and Elsie and Michele are by his side.
On another low note, Ralph Stinson, Sybil's sweet, sweet, father-in-law has fallen and broken his hip:( Poor Fella. Ralph is at Dothan's Flowers Hospital. The Dr.'s have put a pin in his hip and physical therapy will begin soon.
Sybil's Tia Donna (Fred's sister) along with her daughter Molly came for the Easter Holidays. Every one had so much fun. Tia Donna came bearing gifts from California. While there she prepared the loveliest Easter dinner for all of us. David Stinson and his two youngest daughters, Hannah and Leah, along with myself, all had a great time.
Sybil and David are beaming with pride and wanted all to know that there oldest son Chris has been ACCEPTED to BYU Hawaii. Chris will start school this fall. He'll be living on the North Shore.
Adam and Aaron continue to hold the fort down in Pinckard Al. They are two of the most responsible young men. Sybil and David have certainly done an outstanding job raising such a great bunch of kids.
I'll get beck to all of you this evening with more specifics on Sybil's condition and the Dr.'s reports.
For now, all is well.
Thank you ALL again for your continued prayer and support for the Stinson and Harley families.
Non of this would have been possible with out your prayers and monetary gifts of love.
Sincerely,
Lizzy & Ody

Thanks to Jose Aponte for emailing me and letting me know that friends and family are looking here for news and updates. I’ll try to keep it more current from now on. I didn’t realize that so many friends and family look to this site for information.
I will also post a follow up of all that has happened from March 22nd untill now.
Thanks Jose.

[March 13, 2008]
This just in from Jerry
They are releasing Sybil to go home to her apt. today. She will have to visit the hospital daily for her fungal pneumonia treatments.
[March 11, 2008]
CLEAR, CLEAR
Good news on Sybil today. As of Tuesday, March 11,2008 Sybil's second bone marrow biopsy came back CLEAR again. No signs of any active cancer cells in her body.
Her Viral Pneumonia has now been diagnosed as Fungal Pneumonia, the lesser of two evils I am sure.
She is quickly regaining her appetite and strength.
Thanks to all of you who put on the armor and stormed the gates in prayer. Your all AWESOME!
Please continue to pray for Sybil as she prays for us.
Sincerely,
Sybil's friend
Lizzy
[March 8, 2008]
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Stranger's,
As of Saturday, March 8th, 2008 Sybil continues to battle a tempeture of nine consecutive days due to Viral Pneumonia. She is tired and weak but continues to maintain a positive attitude. The Dr's and nurses are keeping a good eye on her but sleep escapes her due to the constant monitoring of her condition.
She has not been answering her phone during the day time hours as that is the only time she seems to be getting any sleep.
Another bone marrow biopsy is needed to confirm the "CLEAR" that we were given last week , as her Dr's are now reporting that the biopsy of last week was premature in it's findings and further examination is necessary to confirm remission. Unfortunately Sybil is too weak at the present for any testing. Her appetite has dwindled considerably and malnutrition is now a factor along with a low potassium level and Kidney stones.
Time to put those petitions in over time people. Let us Storm the gates and rock the Heavens.
I never wanted to come off as "Preaching", but alas the time has come to draw upon a faithful word from the book of James.
James 5:16 "Confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The effectual (unceasing) fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much".
United in prayer as common people, I humbly request WE petition our God to look down upon our friend, daughter, mother, and wife, and grant her the strength to get past this and continue on with the good fight.
Sincerely,
Sybil's friend,
Lizzy

A message from our Sybil.
My dearest Ody,
First of all my precious, I am so thankful, grateful, overwhelmed and so full of love and appreciation for all that you are doing for me with this absolutely wonderful website. It has brought so many blessing into my life like you couldn't ever imagine. I thank you and my lizzy for all!!!
Today was one of those days. I had a bronchoscopy this morning. It is a test where the cardiopulmonary specialist goes up thru the nose and down your throat with a tube to your lungs and drawn up cells so they can be tested. They gave me drugs to put into a concious sedation but the problem is one of the drugs does not do much for me and I was more awake than asleep. They also numb your throat with anesthesia. I don't remember all of it but I do remember gagging and coughing alot and gasping for air. I did not hurt but I believe that I pannicked a bit because I was aware of the fact that I had to gasp for air and I did not like the feeling. All went by pretty quick though (I think)! Ha-Ha...the funny thing is that the meds took more effect on me after the fact and I slept quite a bit afterwards. Then I got a neupogen shot (a growth factor for white cells) in my stomach and it causes me alot of bone pain so they gave me morphine before that and it knocked me out the rest of the day. I am still groggy from all meds. Woo-Hoo! We will have the results in a few days. In the meantime, they are dealing with the fevers and anything else I need...such as blood tranfusions and platelet tranfrusions. If I can encourage anyone out there to donate to your local blood banks, please do so. There is a desperate need for blood products. Just a little information that I learned and found to be interesting...60% of the population is eligible to donate blood and only 5% of that 60% does. Mostly out of fear of needles. It is a scary thing, but it truly is a lifesaver. I couldn't have survived without them. I appreciate all those that do donate on a regular basis and would love to encourage those that have never thought about it, to do at least consider it. Here at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, they give over 650 blood tranfusions a day. They also have the largest blood bank in the world. Amazing, isn't it? I am hanging in there, and I know that all your prayers help me so much. I love life and have all to live for. Thank you all for your love and support to me and my family. I love you guys and I am so excited with all the people that have come back into my life. I am so blessed!!!! Please pray for my mother...she is fighting the flu. She is not allowed to come to the hospital so I have not seen her since last week. She is wonderful to me and takes good care of me.
Love to all of you,
Sybil

A Special Thank You
[March 3, 2008]
CLEAR BIOPSY!!
The results are back from Sybil’s Bone Marrow biopsy.
CLEAR, CLEAR, CLEAR!!!
Hurray!!!
So here we go with the next step. A consolidation chemo treatment will begin shortly.
Following the consolidation an evaluation will be done to determine whether or not another stem cell transplant is in order. Keep up the prayers friends, they have not gone unheard.
Lizzy
[March 3, 2008]
Dear Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers,
Please pray for Sybil today as she comes to your mind. She was diagnosed with Viral Pneumonia last evening and is feeling quite poorly, however, remains in good spirits which always ceases to amaze me.
Know this my friends, no prayer how ever small goes unheard. God is a good God.
Sincerely,
Lizzy & Ody
[March 1, 2008]
Same news for the most part. Sybil still has a temperature and batteling it like a champ.
[February 28, 2008]
Sybil is back at MDM fighting another Temperature. Her spirits are high as she fights this new infection. Small as it may seem, but serious none the less. Her immune system has been reduced too nothing from the chemo treatments. Continue to pray for her.
She has been so humbled by the out pouring of love and compassion of those who know her and those who don't.
[February 26, 2008]
Sybil finally is able to go to her new apartment. Fully furnished and ready to move into. Thanks to all the good people in Houston. They really do, do things BIG in Texas. Absolute Strangers came from everywhere to help. They gave out of the kindness of thier hearts for a stranger in need. I need to say something about my buddy Jerry. Even though he would get mad at me for saying something, I'm going to say it anyways. He is a true GENTELMAN! He pampered my Wife (Whooa! Thanks Bud!) and took the bull by it horns traveling from Leage to Texas City and back again to Houston with furnishings for Sybil's apartmet. They filled the apartment from front ot back with everyhting a woman could possibly need, and then some.
[February 24, 2008]
Sybil is still running a temperature, we don't know why they can't get it down, this is a good time for some prayers. When her temperature gets back to normal she will be allowed to return to her apartment.
Here is an email I received from Lizzy explaining a little of what is going on today.
”David and I are leaving shortly for San Antonio for a distant relative’s home who has a sleeper couch, end tables, and who knows what else. We'll see when we get there! People always seem to have more to give when we get there.
The weather is beautiful today and it should be a good road trip as David and I seem to have endless memories that tickle our funny bones. It'll be an approx. two and a half hour drive to and from San Antonio.“
Sounds like they have everything under control!
Good job guys!
Ody
[February 23, 2008]
A lot has happened lately, more updates will be posted tomorrow.
In brief, Sybil is not doing too good at the moment, Fever has engulfed her and she is in the hospital enduring treatment for that at the moment.
More on this will be posted in the morning.
Help is on the way. My buddy Jerry and his family have been a godsend.
It is surprising to most, but I know him better than anyone. Once he was notified of the situation he went all out. More help than you could possibly imagine. Trucks, trailers for moving, furniture furnishings more than I know at this time. His friends came from everywhere to help!
I will update the new list of needed items when I find out more.
Keep the help on the move, what a miracle it has been..
Ody

If you have any household items that you can donate please contact sybilanddavid@helpsybil.com or lizzysbff@helpsybil.com they will provide you with a physical mailing address to send any donated items.
[February 17, 2008]
Return to Houston
Sybil and David's Oldest daughter Maria will be driving Sybil and Sybil's mother back to Houston this evening. Time to pack and get ready to move to the one bedroom unfurnished apartment.
[February 15, 2008]
Sybil returns home for Mother-In-Law’s funeral
Doctors felt Sybil was well enough to fly home this weekend to attend her mother-in-law’s Funeral.
Maxine Ruth Tufts Stinson passed away on February 10, 2008 in her home surrounded by family. Ms. Maxine was 85 years old.
Maxine and Ralph Stinson had seven sons, one daughter, seven daughter's-in-law, one son-in-law, twenty four grandchildren and fourteen great grand children. What a marvelous accomplishment. The burial service with military honors was quite moving. Testimonies given by five of her sons, her beautiful daughter, and three lovely daughters-in-law was evidence of her high standard/morals and faith in God.
[February 12, 2008]
This round of Chemo Therapy treatment is finally over. WOW what a trooper she's been, she's one of the staffs favorite patients. Never complains and smiles all the time. Sybil has been an inspiration for nurses, Doctors and other patients as well. Sybil never meets a stranger and has always been that way. Her disease has not changed her bright and happy spirit.
We are now waiting on the results of the last round of chemo treatments. We will keep updating as more information becomes available.
Lizzy
[February 2, 2008]
Sybil returned home for a breif visit with her family for 3 days, she then returned to Texas to begin her second phase of chemo therapy.
